GOD’S WORD FOR TODAY:

“Then he said, ‘May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?‘ He [the One of Three] answered, ‘For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.’ When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, He left, and Abraham returned home.” (Genesis 18.32-33)

REFLECTION ON GOD’S WORD:

We have heard this “mic drop” before when God listened to Abraham petition for the blessing of Ishmael and when God had spoken to Abraham and Sarah of the inevitability of them bearing a son together. Let us be reminded, “God will always have the last word and final say.” God does hear us and our petitions. God does listen to our heart and mind and spirit. As scripture says, however, (Romans 11.33-36):

“O, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and untraceable His ways! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor? Who has first given to God, that God should repay him? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.”

There are times, more than we would care to submit to, when enough is enough and God just walks away. He is not being defiant nor rude. He is being resolute and adamant. His Will shall be done. God is not one to be bargained with; God listens. God is reasonable. God is reasoning out the full measure of love, grace and justice. It sometimes feels like judgment and condemnation. It sometimes feels like a gentle rain on a hot summer day. It sometimes may seem to our mind confusing. In those times, we do well to press more into Him than step back to question or refute. Ultimately, it is about God’s glory. Why would we want to stain it (as if we could)? When God walks away from Abraham, He is not turning His back on Him in disappointment. He is being “matter of fact.” The time has come when listening ceases and obedience is required. He does not cease to listen to us. He gives us the opportunity to gather ourselves and listen to Him.

Tune your ears to Him, mighty ones of God. Open the eyes and ears of your heart, mind and soul with the shared Spirit that has brought you into life and will sustain you. Remember:

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. There are none so deaf as those who refuse to listen. There are none so lost as those who refuse the hand of God extended in mercy, grace and abounding love.

That is the final word of God.

TODAYS’ PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING:

Father, in these days we are finding the need to believe even more than ever before. We all have known trouble, some in greater ways than others, but You are offering us the assurance that we will not be consumed by it forever. Regardless of the “time” we are in and the “time” we have been given, we ask for Your Holy Spirit which Jesus asked You to share with us, to lead and guide and direct us in the paths we should go. Teach us what we still need to learn. Empower us to put that learning into action. Bless our actions not as a works righteousness endeavor, but as righteous works of faith, hope and love in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
